We have a thriving Junior club but Senior membership has dipped in recent years and we are keen to attract new Senior members.

Senior Membership

Our main session is between 7.00 am at 9:30 am on a Sunday morning. During the summer, we also row on Wednesday evenings. There is also an option to row from late mornings on Saturdays.

Seniors Captain: Nicola Whittle

Date: August 2026

After so many months of red boards due to heavy rainfall, it has been a delight to get back on the water and take full advantage of our glorious stretch of river
. The contrast in conditions could not have been more extreme with uninterrupted sun the order of the day.

And Wednesday evenings have been back in play.

Coffee, biscuits and a chat on the boat house balcony makes for a great way to start a Sunday following an early outing!

Happy rowing.

Previous Experience

Senior membership is currently only open to those who have rowed before and who have attained a minimum level of competence.

Flexible Outings

Senior members are free to make their own arrangements at the designated times subject to following the Senior Captain’s guidance as to water and weather conditions and adhering to SVRC’s safety rules.

Safety First

The Senior Captain will determine the river conditions in advance and communicate them via WhatsApp.  When conditions are not suitable for rowing, members are able to use the ergos in the Shiplake College boathouse.
