Safety for all members is an absolute priority. Juniors will always be supervised by at least one qualified adult.
All members must obey the safety guidelines set out in our Rules.
‘The campaign, in their own words: “Provides safety advice to rowers, clubs, events and anyone else who takes part in rowing”

SVRC has a dedicated “Welfare Officer”, whose primary responsibility within the club is safeguarding children.
Anyone with any safeguarding concerns can contact them via email at [email protected]
Members are not allowed to row or scull if conditions are judged unsafe.
Captains will make a judgement about rowing conditions ahead of each session and communicate their decision to members by WhatsApp.
Decisions are typically based on a combination of Environment Agency flow warnings (red or yellow boards), whether the flow is rising or falling, and weather conditions (in particular wind speeds and visibility).

Senior members should never go out on their own: they should always be accompanied by at least one other rower. They are required to take due care when on the river and to take responsibility for their actions. They must abide by the “Decision to Row” risk assessment made by the Senior Captain ahead of each session.
Members are obliged to declare every year that they can swim unaided to the levels required by British Rowing.
We ensure that we follow British Rowing’s “Guiding Principles”
We undertake training for coaches and launch drivers and periodically carry out capsize drills.
Before each session, the Junior Captain will make a decision using the club’s “Decision to Row” risk assessment to determine whether, based on river and weather conditions and the skill levels of each year group, it is safe for them to row.
